Abstract

452,290. Directive wireless signalling. BARFIELD, R. H., Radio Research Station, Slough, Buckinghamshire. Feb. 19, 1935, No. 5308. [Class 40 (v)] A direction-finding installation, which is not affected by the state of polarization of the received waves, consists of two pairs of identical aerials D, such as frames or directive arrays comprising frames. One member of each pair is arranged in opposition to the other member, and the resulting signal voltage is fed to a receiver 3, preferably of the cathoderay type as described in Specification 252,263, [Class 40 (v)]. The aerials are connected by balanced transmission lines 2 without electrostatic or magnetic coupling. The aerials and transmission lines may be enclosed in earthed metallic screening-tubes 5, as shown in Fig 4. The aerials may be rotated about a vertical or horizontal axis, as shown in dotted lines, the orientation being the same for each.
