Abstract

441,964. Directive wireless signalling. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Jan. 28, 1935, No. 2832. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1934. [Class 40 (v)] To ensure a clear-cut directional indication, free from ambiguity due to waves reflected from a nearby conductor, the receiving aerial system is given a pick-up characteristic which, as shown in Fig. 4, has a zero direction lying inside a small solid angle of full-strength reception, outside which it again receives no signals. Each of the receiving aerials 1 ... 4, Fig. 1 has a sharply-directional characteristic as shown in Fig. 3. They may consist of dipoles mounted inside a reflector, or of separate " beam " arrays, and are arranged in two pairs 1, 2 and 3, 4 set mutually at right angles. The incoming signals from 1, 2 are fed in opposition to a receiver 5, whilst those from 3, 4 are similarly fed to a receiver 5<1>, the rectified output being added in an indicator 6 to give the effect shown in Fig. 4. Alternatively the two opposed voltages from each pair of aerials may be fed direct to a common receiver through networks which. impose a phase-shift of 90‹.
