Abstract
1322696 Radio direction-finding COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE 19 April 1971 [21 Jan 1970] 20045/71 Heading H4D A directional aerial is pointed in a chosen direction by comparing selected attenuation ratios of control signals with the direction found by several, auxiliary, directional aerials with axes spaced around that of the directional aerial. In one embodiment the directional aerial is Cassegrainian with a horn as primary element and this horn is surrounded by four auxiliary horns to effect pointing in azimuth and elevation; a reference station transmits marker signals which are picked up by the four auxiliary horns whose outputs are switched in pairs to comparators sequentially with signals, received on a separate aerial from a further transmitter at the reference station, for providing selected attenuator settings. In a variant the comparison is performed at the reference station, signals being transmitted thereto by the four auxiliary horns. In a third embodiment the auxiliary horns are receptors and are connected via respective filters to reflectors. The invention is applied to geostationary satellites providing nationwide television coverage.
