Abstract
1286311 Aerials MARCONI CO Ltd 18 Feb 1970 [6 June 1969] 28790/69 Heading H4A An aerial system providing circularly polarized radiation with good bandwidth comprises four cylindrically shaped elements 1, 2, 3, 4, all resonant at the same frequency. The axes of the elements 1, 3 are in a first vertical plane, and are at right angles to each other. The axes of the elements 2, 4 are in a second vertical plane which is at right angles to the first, and they are likewise at right angles to each other. A central feeder arrangement (as shown, a balun 5) feeds the pairs of aerials 1, 3 and 2, 4 so that the currents in each pair are in phase, but means are included (as shown in aerials 2, 4) for introducing a 90-degree phase difference between adjacent aerials. The system is supported above a ground plane G, and the vertical polar radiation diagram (Fig. 3, not shown) may be varied to suit requirements by altering the height. The horizontal polar radiation diagram is approximately omni-directional.
