[Class 40 (v)] In a direction - finding aerial system of the kind in which an horizontal dipole is combined with a closed frame in order to compensate for " night effect," means are provided for ensuring full compensation on wavelengths of over 100 metres, even with a badly - conducting earth. The dipole and frame are located at a height of at least 1/3 ## above ground, and, as shown in Fig. 4, a phasing-resistance R is inserted either in the frame aerial F, or in the dipole D, in order to secure a correct balance in the combining circuit CC. Or, as shown in Fig. 3, a second dipole LD is coupled to the combining circuit CC in phase-opposition with the ordinary dipole D.
