Abstract

403,377. Directive wireless signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and LARNDER, H., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. June 16, 1932, No. 17039. [Class 40 (v).] A directional aerial of the type described in Specification 130,490, [Class 40, (v), Wireless signalling &c.], is characterized by the feature that the aerial 2, 3, Fig. 3, is elevated and is connected to the receiver or field coil c through a vertical lead 4 which forms a balanced transmission line, reversed as shown to eliminate any vertical pick-up. The complementary pair of aerials (not shown in Fig. 3) are similarly arranged. The search coil 5 Fig. 4, the coupling-leads 8, and the receiver 7 may all be enclosed in an electrostatic shield 6. The down-lead may be coupled to a balanced transmission line through shielded aperiodic transformers when the receiver is located at some distance from the aerial system.
