488,427. Making bottles; closure caps. CROWN CORK & SEAL CO., Inc. Jan. 6, 1937, No. 416. Convention date, Jan. 11, 1936. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XVII] Stamping.-A metal bottle is made in two parts by successively cupping a sheet, e.g. through the stages shown in Fig. 14, and shaping the upper edge, e.g. tapered inwards to fit a drawn and blanked-out part formed, e.g. in Fig. 15, and forming a closure-engaging bead 23 at the mouth, and then joining the two parts together to form a bottle as in Fig. 6. Other forms of closure necks and bottoms are shown. The seam joining the conical top part to the lower part may have a folded over hem, Fig. 7, on the edge of the lower part to prevent the metal edge coming in contact with the contents. Fig. 2 shows a closure with a conventional crown cap. The body may be formed with peripheral strengthening ribs as in Fig. 6. The shape may be other than circular, e.g. square, rectangular, &c.
