Abstract

199,375. Hammer, C. June 14, 1922, [Convention date]. Cap-stoppers, bayonet-joint; stoppers, making. -A metal closure for glass jars &c. having interrupted threads or lugs comprises a top 2, Figs. 1 and 4, having a depending skirt formed with strengthening corrugations 4 and a rolled edge or bead 5 having inwardly extending projections 7, Fig. 6, formed by forcing the bead 5 bodily inwards and then pressing it transversely so as to utilize practically all the material of the bead. The projections thus made are relatively long and wide and lie substantially within the outer margin of the skirt. In each projection the flattened portion, which may be parallel with the top of the cap, is strengthened by cornute endportions which connect it to the bead.
