391,050. Sealed closures for metal drums &c. AMERICAN FLANGE & MANUFACTURING CO., 4646, Arthington Street, Chicago, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Shera, J. W. ; 4646, Arthington Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) Oct. 31, 1932, No. 30623. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1931. [Class 21.] A sheet metal container with its wall turned outwards to form a cylindrical flange 2, Fig. 2, surrounding an opening and embracing a bushing 7 with hexagonal or other angular base and a bead or enlargement at 9, has a sealing- cap 20, the skirt 23 of which is contracted so as to lie against the flange 2 and press the cap against flexible packing 21, the lower edge being in some cases arranges to lie close to the container wall at the base of the flange. The cap may be used without a stopper in which case the bushing 7 may be omitted and the bead 9 provided on the flange 2, or a plug of wood, cork, &c., may be used or a screwed stopper 11 with a gasket 19, which, if of fibre, is preliminarily softened so as to pass over the stopper head. The cap may have its skirt crimped and may have scorings, e.g. as indicated in Fig. 13. Other forms of scoring are also described. Over-tightening of the plug may be prevented by arranging the rim 13 of the head of the plug to contact the bushing 7.
