488,628. Making cans. CROWN CORK & SEAL CO., Inc. Jan. 6, 1937, No. 15373/38. Convention date, Jan. 11, 1936. Divided out of 488,427. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XVII] Stamping.-A metal bottle, Fig. 9, is made from a single piece of metal, Fig. 18, a separate bottom being seamed, welded or soldered thereto. The mouth is formed by punching out and is shaped to form a fairly sharp bend for good pouring, a fairly flat topped bead 24 to provide a good sealing area for a crown cork, Fig. 1, and the inturned outer edge of the bead is supported by resting on the metal of the neck. Other shapes of mouth and sealing caps are in Figs. 5, 7 and 8. The base of the body has a rib 79 for positioning a bottom therein, the edge then being seamed in or outwards along with the inserted bottom to secure it therein, Fig. 13, the seam being preferably flush with the wall of the body. The bottom may be dished and may also be secured by welding, soldering, &c. Specification 488,610 is referred to.
