459,967. Metal cans and stoppers. STEVENSON, G. A., 3, Richmond Villas, and GRIFFITHS, A. C., " Dryden," Frederick Place, Llansamlet, both in Swansea.. Nov. 9, 1935, Nos. 31078/35 and 925/36. [Classes 66 and 125 (iii)] A metal can for beverages and intended to withstand internal pressure is of flattened crosssection, and is provided with a pouring aperture extending into the can near one end of the top plate and closed by a tapered plug 10 secured in position by pressed-out projections. The body of the can has a single vertical double-seam and the top and bottom plates are seamed and soldered in double flanges 4, 5, the joints being rubber sealed. The inside of the can is lacquered and the parts surrounding the pouring aperture are coated with a plastic. The plug engages a beaded rim of the aperture by projections 14 or a ring which may be formed by a suitable tool after the plug is in place, or projections may engage recesses in the aperture and may be similarly formed. The flange 12 of the plug may be coated with rubber to form a gasket joint, and is provided with a lip 13 to facilitate removal.
