Abstract

445,603. Metal drums. FRANCIS, J. H. E., Thames Ironworks, John Penn Street, Lewisham, London. March 1, 1935, No. 6477. [Classes 21 and 66] A sheet-metal drum adapted when empty to serve as a pail is formed with an upper part or neck of reduced diameter provided with a flanged head c of dished form, the flange being grooved at c<1> to receive a gasket ring and the upper edge c<3> being adapted to seat on the mouth curl a<4>. After insertion the neck is annularly indented at a<5> to spread the gasket and afford a hermetic joint, the lower edge coming beneath the indentation a<5>. The head is formed with an inwardly inclined flanged opening fitted with a revoluble spout e which may have a removable cover e<1>, the opening being sealed by a tagger closure f which may be annularly weakened at f<3>. A boss c<5> is formed with a central depression adapted to be pierced to afford a vent opening. In the case of drums for holding grease a central flanged opening provided with a lever-lid may be substituted for the opening shown.
