Abstract

[Class 83 (iv).] The cover flange of a tin or like container is formed into an inwardly directed groove 4 which is laid into a correspondingly shaped inwardlyprojecting groove 3 formed at the mouth of the body portion, tightening material 15, which may be an indiarubber ring, being disposed at the bottom of the body groove 3 and spread along the sides thereof between the grooves on the introduction of the part 4, as shown in Fig. 9. The flange may, as shown, terminate in a bead 8 to facilitate removal of the cover by levering, or a tab for engagement by a winding-key may be provided. The edges of the grooves may be bent towards each other to close the opening partially, or a formation such as is shown in Figs. 1 or 6, wherein the opening is covered by a part of the flange, may be adopted. Fig. 7 shows a body groove of double-walled formation, the flange having a part 12 which is thrust in between the folds.
