Convention date, June 4, 1930. [Class 66.] In a can or like metal container of the type having a collar disposed within the body to extend above the lip of the opened container for engagement with a cap for reclosure purposes, one end of the collar which is straight engages in a housing formed by bending the other end of the collar upon itself. The can includes a body portion 1 and an upper end 2, secured by a double seam 3, and centrally depressed to provide a substantially vertical portion 4. Score lines 6, 7 are provided on the body to form a rip strip 8. A collar 9 is located within the container and is formed by folding a strip of metal longitudinally, cutting off the ends of the folded back portion 10, and folding one end of the inner portion of the collar to provide a housing for the other end 17 of this inner portion. The housing is formed by offsetting the end at 12 to form a portion 13 which is folded back on itself to afford the portion 14 which is again offset at 15 to provide the spaced portion 16 in line with the folded back portion 10. When the tongue 17 is housed within the other end of the collar the parts are compressed. The top of the collar is rolled at 11 into a bead, so that the collar may easily engage with a cap such as the inverted detached end 42 of the container for reclosure purposes. The collar may be slightly larger than the container and be forced therein to provide a tight frictional grip. Specification 351,149 is referred to.
