Abstract
414,284. Cans &c. ARMSTRONG, J. J. V., 12, Church Street, Liverpool.-(Continental Can Co., Inc. ; 100, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 16, 1933, No. 35450. [Class 66.] To permit the escape of gas evolved by the contents of a can &c. an elastic disc 8 carried by a cap 7 is applied over a raised seating, preferably dome-shaped, formed in one of the ends and provided with an opening which is sealed by the disc except when it is raised from the seating by. internal pressure. The disc is engaged between the rolled edge and the shoulder 10, Fig. 3, of the cap which is itself secured in place by bending or rolling the wall of a recess in the end inwardly at 14. Spaced indentations 13 permit the gas to pass between the seating and the edge of the recess, and the upper surface of the disc is open to the atmosphere. Fig. 5 shows a modified construction in which the cap is soldered to the seating, the disc in this form being provided with an aperture 6b out of register with apertures 6<a> formed in the seating.
