365,959. Cans &c. CONTINENTAL CAN CO., Inc., 100, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Wakelee, R. L. ; 4622, West North Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A.) June 10, 1931, No. 16863. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1930. [Class 66.] A can or like metal container of the kind provided on the body portion, adjacent the double seam by which the end is attached, with spaced score lines forming a rip strip so that the end may be released from the body, has a collar therein adapted to form a neck to the opened container for engagement with a cap for reclosure purposes, the collar having a seamless depending portion adapted to engage the inner wall of the container. The container comprises a cylindrical body portion 1 to which ends are secured by double seaming. An inwardly projecting bead 6 is provided in the body of the can and above this are spaced score lines 7, 8 forming a rip strip 9. A collar with a seamless vertical wall 10 a horizontal wall 11 and another vertical wall 12 rests inside the can or the bead 6, and is rolled into a bead 13 at its upper end. The vertical wall 10 of the collar extends above the lower score line 7 on the can body. The end 4 is provided with a depending portion 15 which extends along the inner wall of the container body and a spaced depending portion 16 which slips over the vertical wall 12 of the collar for reclosure purposes. The collar may be drawn from a single annular piece of metal.
