Abstract
485,599. Aircraft display-device. AIRWORK, Ltd., and ADDINELL, H. Dec. 1, 1936, No. 32885. [Class 4] An aircraft advertising, target or like device comprises a banner carrying roller 5 mounted in a frame 8 adapted to be wholly or partially retracted into the fuselage. As shown, the frame 8 is mounted on guides 10 and is projected and retracted by rotation of a hand-crank 20 through a cable 15a 15b arranged as shown. In its projected position, the frame 8 is steadied by a cable 21, 21a, 21b operated by a winch 23. The banner may be furled and unfurled by power derived from a windmill and transmitted to a shaft 28 through a clutch and variable-speed-gear, a brake being mounted on the transmission shaft. The shaft 28 is detachably connected to a shaft 29 which rotates the roller through chain and spur gearing. The roller may be manually rotated from a crank-handle 40. A brake acts on a drum 42 to control unfurling of the banner. A guide 44 facilitates winding the banner on the drum and a quick-release device is provided such that the banner can be jettisoned. The frame is projected through a trap-door 3. The frame may be mounted on vertical guides or for pivoted movement into and out of the fuselage.
