714,948. Hand-winding mechanism for electric lifts. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd., and BILLINGTON, J. H. Feb. 2, 1953 [Feb. 22, 1952], No. 4740/52. Class 78 (5) A detachable emergency hand-winding mechanism for an electric lift (e.g. gearless) comprises a handwheel 31 which drives drum shaft 10 through epicyclic gearing 22, 25, 24, 20. As shown, handwheel 31 forms the planet carrier of planet wheels 24, 25, the mechanism being slid into sleeve 13 of the winch frame so that the sungear 20 is fixed by pin .21 and remains stationary and so that driven sungear 22 (which is driven by rotation of the hand wheel) engages shaft 10 at their ends 11, 23 which form a dog clutch, and so drives the winch. The mechanism may be secured in its position by pin 18, the movement into position causing the depression of pin 16 so as to actuate switch 17 to switch out the winch motor. After the mechanism is withdrawn pin 18 secures a cap over the opening of sleeve 13.
