Abstract
365,316. Winches. HOPKINSON, A., Delta Works, Audenshaw, Lancashire. Jan. 13, 1931, No. 1172. [Class 78 (v).] The feed drum a of a coal cutting machine is rigidly connected to a pinion c gearing with an idler pinion d supported by rotatable plates e, f, which rotatably support a ratchet wheel g with spur teethh on its inner periphery meshing with the idler d. A latch pivoted on the plate e is adapted in one position to hold the idler against rotation in the plates e, f, the ratchet wheel then driving the drum at low speed. In another position, the latch engages a fixed stop k to prevent rotation of the plates e, f while allowing rotation of the idler, the drum then being driven at high speed. In an intermediate position of the latch, the parts are freed so that the feed rope may be pulled freely from the drum.
