Abstract
206,076. Evans, W. E., (Deutsche Maschinenfabrik Akt.-Ges.). Feb. 27, 1923. Apparatus with jointly-controllable drums; driving-gear.-In winding mechanism for grabs, of the type in which two drums connected by planet gearing are associated with two motors, one of which drives both drums and the other one drum only, the planet gearing is formed of spur wheels and is carried by that drum which is driven only when both drums are being driven. In the illustrated form, when the hoisting motor a is driven, the hoisting drum b is rotated through the gearing n, o while the opening drum d also is rotated by the rolling of the planet pinions c on the fixed sun wheel g, and consequential rotation of the toothed wheel q. When the opening motor e is driven, the opening drum d alone is driven, the sun wheel g in this case driving the wheel q through the planet pinions acting as idlers. In one modified arrangement, the two drums are coaxial and mounted loosely on a common shaft. In this case the toothed ring q is integral with the second drum. In a further modification of this latter construction, the drum b is divided and half is placed on either side of the opening drum. In this case the gearing is duplicated.
