Abstract

113,161. Blaney, W. T. March 2, 1917. Sweeping-machines.-Relates to machines of the kind having a rotary brush, the shaft of which is mounted in bearing-blocks sliding in arc-shaped guides when the brush is raised or lowered with respect to the road. The invention consists in providing roller bearings between the brush shaft and the bearing-blocks, and between the bearing- blocks and their guides. Fig. 1 shows a motorvehicle fitted with a rotary brush 3, the bearing blocks 4 of which are movable in arcuate guides 5 struck from the axis of the brush-driving wheel 6. The brush can be raised by means of a cord 14 connected to the hood 7 of the brush and wound round a drum 16 rotated bv a ratchet lever 23 through a chain gear 19. A releasable pawl 25 permits the brush to fall under its own weight. The brush is counterbalanced by a weight 13 acting through a cord 11. The brush-spindle bearing-blocks 4 and the arcuate guide members 39 are fitted with roller bearings 33, 44 respectively as shown in detail in Fig. 3.
