Abstract
12,201. Noble, R. E. May 20. Coal-cutting machines.-Mining-machines, particularly those of the endless-chain type, are provided with a hauling-drum 58 mounted on the end of the machine adjacent to the coal and with a capstan 32 and snubbing post 34 at the other end which engage a stationary rope 69, for the purpose of moving, or controlling the movements of the machine. The hauling-rope passes over a guide-pulley 60 which is mounted as shown in Fig. 6 in a block 61 held in trunnions 62 at one end and by a projecting lug 63 at the other end, so that the pulley may stand vertically or horizontally. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the winding-drum is driven by the motor 18 through pinion 20, spur-wheel 37 on shaft 38 which carries a worm engaging a wormwheel 40 on shaft 41 by which a spur wheel 42 may be driven through a clutch 44; the wheel 42 engages a spur-wheel 51 which drives the drum through pinions 56, 54 and internal gear 57. The capstan 32 is driven from the pinion 20 through a spur-wheel 21 pinion 29 and spurwheel 30 on the capstan shaft. The cutter chain is driven by a removable plug 24 on the wheel 21 engaging a projecting arm on the sprocket-wheel 26. The clutch 44 comprises a sliding sleeve carrying rollers 45 adapted to engage with slots in the hub of the wheel 42. The sliding sleeve is operated by a crank arm 48 on a shaft 49.
