Abstract

July 23, 1918 Winding and paying-out apparatus on motorrehicles; gaiding ropes and cables on or off during winding.-The engine shaft 5 of a tractor is geared to a spur wheel 3 mounted on a differential hub (not shown), from which extends the divided countershaft 1 carrying pinions 20 engaging internal gears on the road wheels 22. A sprocket wheel 2 is mounted on one-half of the countershaft and geared to a similar wheel 8 attached to the winding drum 9. The rope &c. 15, Fig. 2, is guided on to the drum by means of a pulley 14 mounted in a bracket 13 pivoted centrally beneath the drum. Suitable clutches are provided for the gear, and by throwing one pinion 20 out of gear the drum can be used as an ordinary haulage drum or for hauling the tractor when an anchored cable is used. Cog-wheel gearing may be used instead of sprocket gearing.
