Abstract

267,733. Low, D. A. April 23, 1926. Toothed gearing.-In toothed reducing gearing for use with marine engines &c. of the type in which a series of wheels 3 each of one or two diameters are rotatably mounted in a carrier 5, which may be secured to the driven shaft 6 or may be stationary, and gear with a sun-wheel 2 and annulus 7 or with two sun-wheels, the wheels 3 are circumferentially adjustable in the carrier 5 so as to ensure equal loads on each wheel. Some of the wheels may be so adjusted as to ensure equal loading of such wheels on reversal of drive. The wheels 3 are retained by bolts 15 on hollow pins 4 carried in bushes 8 fitting loosely in holes in the carrier 5. Flanges 9 on the bushes and loose washers 10 engage circumferential groove in the carrier and may be secured by bolts (not shown) to the carrier to lock the parts in position when the wheels 3 have been circumferentially adjusted by taper-headed bolts 11.
