Abstract

575,765. Variable - pitch airscrews. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., GILLMORE, K. B., and BROWN, G. H. F. April 15, 1941, No. 4928. [Class 114] Mechanism for varying airscrew pitch comprises control and reaction gear, the control gear having a sun 25 meshing with a pitchchange drive shaft 38, and a sun 30 meshing with pitch-change drive gear 32, while the reaction gear comprises a sun 12 fixed to a stationary part and a sun 10 fixed on the screw shaft. The suns engage a planet 19 on a shaft carrying a reversing pinion 21 meshing with a pinion 22, a planet 24 on the shaft of pinion 22 and reversing pinions 15, 16 rotating on shafts, all parts being mounted by a cage 14. The drive may be transferred through the worm 34 effecting the pitch change, to act on a reverse screw through similar gearing.
