Abstract

544,948. Screw propellers. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Oct. 31, 1940, No. 15925. Convention date, Oct. 13, 1938. [Class 114] Pitch-adjusting mechanism of the epicyclic type for tandem airscrews comprises an axle which is maintained in a relatively stationary position by co-operation of a gear thereon with gears on the airscrew shafts, and supports an intermediate gear of a train arranged between the adjusting-mechanisms of the two airscrews. In the mechanism shown in the Figure, blades 13, 14 are revolubly mounted in hubs 15, 16 on hollow shafts 2, 3 which are driven in opposite direction by gearing 6, 4. Sun-wheels 15<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>1</SP> on the hubs engage gears 24 on axles 20 mounted in a casing 27, and a ring 32 revolubly mounted on the shaft 3. Gears 21, 22 mounted on the axles engage sun-wheels 25, 26 gearing with pinions 18 and 19 provided with worms for turning the blades 13, 14 to adjust the pitch thereof. The pinion 18 is connected by pinions 17, 10, 12 to manual or automatic adjusting-means. The oppositely rotating sun-wheels 15<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>1</SP> cause the gears 24 to hold stationary the axles 20, and thereby enable them to serve as pivots for the gears 21, 22 when the pinion 12 is turned to adjust the blades. Lubricant 28 is forced through the axles 20 to the ring 32 by a feed-device 23, and escapes through ducts in ring.
