Abstract
514,242. Screw propellers. WEISSMAN, H. March 30, 1939, No. 10002. Convention date, April 6, 1938. [Class 114] A screw propeller is constituted by an outer rotatable ring which carries internal screw blades that project inwardly by an amount less than the radius of the ring. To ring'5 is'bolted a number of blades 4 of which the leading edge extends radially inward further than the trailing edge. ' The leading edge slopes inwardly whilst the trailing edge slopes outwardly from the body of the blade. The rotatable ring member is provided with a gearing 36 which meshes with corresponding gearing 33 upon a driving shaft 32. The ring is mounted in ball races 22 within a two-part support 21 which is carried at its inner end by the hull 1 of the ship and its outer end by strut members 28.
