[Class 78(v)] [Also in Group XXXIII] In a device for launching or landing aircraft and comprising a vertical motor-driven shaft B having on it a pivotally y mounted arm provided with means for connection to the aircraft, which means includes a flexible part such as a rope, there is also provided within an enlargement 143 a drum 146 for winding in and out of the rope during rotation of the shaft B. Rotation of the shaft B from a drive 141 may also cause rotation of the drum 146 by pinions 147 running on a toothed track 148, a motor 151 being provided to determine the speed and direction of the movement of the track 148 and thus controlling the winding-in or out as desired.
