Abstract

In wrapping-machines in which the wrapper is presented obliquely in respect of the article, adhesive is applied to an edge of the wrapper by mechanism movable in conformity with the oblique disposition of the edge. Wrappers 1 are contained in a magazine 2 arranged obliquely in respect of the article 5 to be wrapped. A wrapper is withdrawn by a gripper 4 to overlie the article in the position shown in broken lines, and, during this movement, a line 20 of adhesive is applied by a wheel 7. In order to compensate for the oblique position of the wrapper, the gumming mechanism is moved transversely between the positions shown by mechanism 8, 9, co-ordinated with the gripper 4 so as to produce a strip of adhesive parallel and adjacent to the edge of the wrapper. The article 5 is then pushed upwards into a folding box, carrying the wrapper with it. The inclination of the <PICT:0484491/III/1> magazine 2 and the travel of the gumming device are adjustable.
