369,489. Closing filled cartons. UNIVERSELLE CIGARETTENMASCHINENFABRIK J. C. MœLLER & CO., 48, Zwickauerstrasse, Dresden, Germany. July 2, 1931, No. 19109. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1930. [Class 94 (i).] Apparatus for closing the open end of a carton &c. in which the closure flaps of a carton, filled with cigarettes &c., introduced into a chamber 2 protrude from the chamber and are folded by the aid of withdrawable flat bars about which the flaps are folded by fingers &c., is characterized in that the flat bars are carried by movable supports over which two opposite side flaps are first folded and then, after removal of the flat bars the container is passed along a supporting bar over which the last two flaps are folded. The movable bars 10, 11 are carried by spring- biased pivoted arms 12, 13, the free ends of which carry rollers 22, 23 which follow cam tracks 24, 25. The support 17 is reciprocated by cam and lever mechanism 19, 20. The end flaps 5, 6 are folded over the bars 10, 11 by fingers 8, 9, the bars being then retracted and withdrawn. The conveyer 1, carrying the pockets 2 and filled packets 3, then moves onwards a stationary bar 26 occupying the space between the projecting side flaps 4, 7 which are folded over on to the bar by folding elements 28, 29.
