Abstract
871,502. Cigarette cartons, packages. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. June 28, 1957 [June 28, 1956], No. 20591/57. Classes 18 and 94(1). A package, which may contain cigarettes, comprises an inner foil wrapping an outer paper pouch formed from the blank shown in Fig. 1, and an outer wrapping of cellulose acetate sheet. The blank has an inner portion 40 integrally connected to the sides 12, 18 by fold lines 45, 36. A slit 30-32 and a score line 33 defines the lid which hinges about the line 33. Tabs 48 on the portion 40 assist in keeping the lid closed. In an alternative construction, end flaps 96, Fig. 1, are dispensed with and portions 57 correspond to the full width of the sides 12, 18 and the single scores 45, 46 are replaced by the pleated formation shown in Fig. 10. The package is formed by feeding the blank from a magazine, either in the flat form or with the inner portion 40 folded over the outer portion, and placing the blank against a mandrel 65 (as described in Specification 328,310) around which the foil 70, Fig. 11, is wrapped. The blank is folded to tubular form and secured by glue flap 20. Top flaps 23, 25 and then flaps 22, 24 are folded down and secured by adhesive. Cigarettes are pushed into the package through the hollow mandrel by a plunger which finally pushes the package off the mandrel. Finally, the foil at the bottom of the package is tucked in and flaps 96, 34, and 36 are folded down and secured by adhesive.
