Abstract
484,440. Draught-excluders for doors. DUNCOMBE, J., and EVANS, W. J. Aug. 13, 1937, No. 22332. [Class 20 (iii)] A hinged draughtexcluding strip, for the bottoms of doors or the like, carries an arm or finger which directly engages with a spring- controlled plunger which, by engaging with an abutment, is adapted to be moved transversely of the door against the action of its spring to move the strip into contact with the floor. The draughtexcluder shown comprises a flap 14 of rubber or like resilient material mounted on a pivot pin 15 which extends between two plates 13 secured to the opposite ends of the lower edge of the door. Each plate 13 is of U-shape and that plate near the hinge 11 of the door 10 contains a plunger 18, the head 18a of which is urged outwardly beyond one face of the door by a spring 19. The plunger has a recess 17 for receiving a finger 16 of the hinged flap and is provided also with a pin 18c which limits its outward movement. Upon closing the door, the head 18a coacts with a plate 20 secured to the door jamb 12, and the plunger is thus moved against the action of its spring to depress the flap 14. The plate 20 has slots 22 for receiving the fixing screws 21 whereby the plate is adjustable towards or away from the plunger. British Specification 149,768, [Class 20 (iii)], and U.S.A. Specification 1,994,645 are referred to.
