Abstract

686,612. Draught excluders. WHEILDON. C. N. June 12, 1951 [July 14, 1950], No. 17625/50. Class 20(iii) A draught excluder for mounting along the bottom edge of a door 2 comprises a back plate 1 having turned-in vertical edges to forrr guides 3 for a vertically slidable plate 4, a number of bell crank levers 11 pivoted at 9 to raised parts on the back plate 1 and each having one arm 12 bearing on the slidable plate 4 and the other arm 14 pivoted at 15 to a horizontal thrust bar 16, and tension springs 7 connected between the plates 1, 4 to urge the plate 4 upward. The extending end parts 23 of the. plate 4 act as stops where they engage the guides 3. The thrust bar 16 has an adjustable plunger 17 which contacts the door stile from which the door is hinged so that when the door is shut a weather strip 5 on the plate 4 is pressed into contact with the floor. In alternative constructions the thrust bar 16 is formed with cam surfaces which actuate rods on the back plate 1 and bear on the plate 4, or the thrust bar carries members to co-act with cam surfaces on the plate 4.
