Abstract
744,139. Draught excluders. CLAY, J. L. Feb. 9, 1954 [Nov. 10, 1952], No. 28214/52. Class 20(3). A draught excluder, for a hinged door 3, comprising a wooden, metal or plastic strip 1 screwed at 2 to the door 3 and a wooden or other strip 5 hinged at 4 to strip 1 and urged by a torsion spring 6 away from the door has the strip 5 provided with a metal plate 11 forming a projection 10 so that on closing the door the projection 10 contacts an abutment on the rabbet of the door frame to cause the strip 5 to close towards the lower edge of the door. A rubber strip 16 screwed in a groove 17 in strip 5 contacts the floor in the operative position. The spring 6 is housed in a recess 7 in the strip 5 and has its ends 8, 9, received in openings in the strips 1, 5 respectively. The metal plate 11 may be recessed into the back of strip 5 or as shewn a gap is left between the back of strip 5 and the door when the strip is lowered, a rib 15 on the strip 1 and plate 11 being accommodated in the gap. The end 5<SP>1</SP> of flap 5 is cut on the incline to avoid fouling the abutment on the door frame.
