552,870. Draught excluders for doors. ASHWORTH, W., and ASHWORTH, A. May 18, 1942, No. 6747. [Class 20 (iii)] An external draught excluder has one or more helical springs 11, 12 connected to a strip 3 mounted between an external moulding 1 and a door 2, and maintained against bending by a slot 6 through which they pass. The springs are secured at one end to a fixed block 7, and at the other end to a sliding block 7a, so that when the door is closed, the sliding block is pushed in by the door jamb, and causes those bent portions of the springs which lie in cavities 9 to bend still further and cause the strip to which they are attached by eyes 13, 14 to be lowered and pressed against the threshold. The strip 3 has a pin 4 engaging a vertical slot in a plate 5 attached to the moulding 1 whereby the strip may slide vertically or rock, but is constrained against horizontal movement. In a modification, the strip is pivoted about one end, the pivot being slidable vertically to a limited extent.
