Abstract
483,695. Discharge apparatus. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 3, 1937, No. 30129. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] The metal envelope of an electric discharge vessel is formed in two similar portions, each carrying one electrode system and being formed with a fiange, which flanges are secured together, preferably by welding. The Figure shows a vessel consisting of portions 1, 2, welded together at the flanges 3, 4. Each portion is formed with a neck, and in the neck of the portion 1 is welded a, cylindrical member 6 to which the anode 10 is secured by an insulating member 9. A tube 14 serves as the anode lead and also as a pump connection, and is sealed into the cylinder 6 by glass at a point remote from the weld. To the neck of the portion 2 is welded a cylinder 7 which carries a cathode formed of a number of filaments 17 secured to a screen 16 which also serves as a return conductor. The discharge path is enclosed in a cylindrical screen 20 which carries a grid 23 and is secured in place by a spring 21 and wings 22, the screen grid and container being all, at cathode potential. In a modification the screen-20 is insulated and a variable control potential is applied to the grid.
