Abstract
Heating elements for thermionic cathodes are composed mainly or entirely of perowskite or of the titanates of strontium or barium having a crystal structure similar to that of perowskite, or a mixture of these titanates, the oxygen content of the titanates being less than the stoichiometric content which is in equilibrium with the atmosphere. The oxygen content may be so reduced by heating the titanate in a reducing gas, e.g. at 1500-1800 DEG C. for 30-60 minutes in hydrogen.ALSO:Heating elements for thermionic cathodes are composed mainly or entirely of perowskite or of the titanates of strontium or barium having a crystal structure similar to that of perowskite, or a mixture of these titanates, the oxygen content of the titanates being less than the stoichiometric content which is in equilibrium with the atmosphere. The oxygen content may be so reduced by heating the titanate in a reducing gas, e.g. at 1500-1800 DEG C. for 30-60 minutes in hydrogen. The titanates may be mixed with an insulating additive such as excess of oxide of the alkaline earth metal, this excess may amount to ,1 mol. of the oxide to 1 mol. of the titanate.
