Abstract
481,438. Heating feedwater. SAMUEL, H. A. Sept. 7, 1936, No. 24353. [Class 64 (i)] Feedwater is heated by direct contact with superheated steam in a chamber C containing a perforated conical baffle C<1> having internal and external helical ribs. Water flows into the chamber from a supply pipe A through concentric passages B<6>, B<11> having their walls perforated for the admission of steam from the steam pipe B<7>. The heated water flows into a degassing chamber D and then through a non-return valve D<4> into a pipe A3 connected to the boiler. Air and gases escape through an outlet D<3> and excess pressure is relieved by a valve D<2>. When the heater is cut out by closing the inlet valve A<1> and the non-return valve D4, water flow direct to the pipe A<3> through a byepass A<5>.
