Abstract

In a tip for cigarettes consisting of a strip of paper to which powdered cork is secured by an adhesive, which may be waterproof, lacunae are formed in the surface of the cork tip by applying the adhesive irregularly to the backing paper. The adhesive and the cork powder may be applied by means of a bronzing or like coating machine and the cork-covered strip is calendered when the adhesive is partly set. The paper may be printed, coloured or grained prior to the application of the cork powder, the adhesive may be coloured, or a pigment may be mixed with the cork.
