Abstract

500,443. Slates, blackboards, &c. LANG, P. R. Oct. 20, 1937, No. 28592. [Class 146 (ii)] A slate, blackboard, or the like of the kind comprising a sheet of glass, ground on one side and coated with a dark coloured substance on the other side is made by roughening the front surface by a well-known acid process, and spraying the rear surface either wholly or partly with a dark pigment. Where the slate &c. is to be provided with columns, squares, &c., the rear surface of the glass is masked, before spraying, by a silk stencil, and the uncoated parts are then either sprayed with a white or light coloured pigment or covered by strips of white paper. The sheet of glass is then enclosed in a frame of wood &c., preferably with a backing of wood, cork composition, or metal.
