Abstract

343,742. Writing tablets. THOMAS, W., 1, Farm Walk, Guildford, Surrey. Feb. 19, 1930, No. 5494. Drawings to Specification. [Class 146 (ii).] A writing tablet consists of a front transparent sheet of celluloid, cellulose acetate, or the like, a back sheet of impervious material such as metal or linoleum, and an intermediate paste-like substance of a colour contrasting with that of the back sheet, so that, on passing a blunt instrument over the front sheet, the paste is displaced and exposes the back sheet. The back sheet is preferably faced with enamel, cellulose paint, or other material unaffected by the intermediate layer, which is formed of a greasy material coloured with zinc white, lampblack, red ochre, or other pigment. The markings can be erased by rubbing the tablet with a pad of sackcloth, cardboard, or the like, or by passing a roller or brush over the tablet. In a modification, the back sheet is formed of transparent material, and the inscriptions are displayed by disposing the tablet on a background contrasting in colour with that of the intermediate layer. The top sheet may be protected by a thin sheet of cellulose acetate bearing permanent markings such as guide lines or map outlines, preferably on the undersurface; a set of such sheets may be provided with the device. If desired, the tablet can be mounted on a piece of plywood.
