Abstract

529,818. Writing tablets. ROSE, S. June 8, 1939, No. 16848. [Class 146 (ii)] A writing tablet from which the written matter can easily be removed comprises a light, rough, water-insoluble sheet of cellulose derivative coated on the writing surface with an extremely thin layer of a greasy substance. The sheet is preferably of a non-inflammable cellulose acetate and may be transparent or tinted with a pigment, and may be provided with a backing of cardboard, aluminium &c. and mounted in a frame of wood, artificial resin, or aluminium. The greasy substance is applied by means of a piece of felt, sponge &c, impregnated with a solution of a greasy substance in a volatile solvent, preferably a solution of paraffin oil (60-70 per cent.) in carbon tetrachloride (30-40 per cent.). Marking on the greasy layer of the tablet is removed by this method while a fresh greasy layer is applied at the same time. The backing itself or the inside face of the sheet of cellulose, derivative may be ruled with lines or other divisions, and the opposite sides of the backing may have different rulings. A number of sheets may be superimposed upon one another for successive use and may be mounted on either side of the backing.
