342,474. Ornamenting. HœSERICH, F., 12, Gartenstrasse, Elberfeld, Germany. Dec. 23, 1929, No. 39262. Convention date, Jan. 17. [Class 93.] Imitations of superior wood or marble are produced on surfaces of wood, metal, or other material, by applying thin paper foil printed first with the ground colour and then with the grain of the wood &c. and provided on both the back and the front surfaces with a coating of oil lacquer, cellulose ester lacquer, or the like. The surface to be treated may be coloured in the ground tone of the wood &c. to be imitated. In an example, a piece of printed foil is cut off from a continuous strip, the surface to be treated, after polishing, if necessary, is coated with an oil lacquer diluted with turpentine, and, while the coating is sticky, the foil is moistened with a mixture of water and spirit and is applied. The foil may be affixed by its front surface under a glass plate, which is used as a cover for washing- apparatus, wall coverings, &c.
