Abstract
265,651. Courmont, H. Oct. 9, 1925. Transfers.-A chromo-lithographic transfer for decorating wood, metal, stone, glass, or other materials is prepared by printing the design upon a sheet of gummed paper, coating the design with a material adapted to form a strong supple and insoluble supporting film for the design when transferred, and finally applying a further coating of a casein-containing substance by which the transfer is secured to the article to be decorated. The material to form the supporting film preferably consists of a mixture of 900 parts by weight of copal varnish, 75 parts of linseed oil, and 25 parts of indiarubber, and the ink for printing the design is preferably prepared by adding to ordinary lithographic, ink about 15 per cent by weight of the same mixture. The supporting film may, however, consist of copal varnish alone, or other suitable substances such as celluloid varnish, collodion, or gelatine rendered insoluble by formol. After the film is dry it is coated with a mixture of 500 parts of casein, 400 parts of water, 10 parts of soap, 20 parts of formol, and 70 parts of sodium carbonate. To use the transfers they are moistened and applied to the surface to be decorated, after which the paper backing is stripped off.
