Abstract

479,456. Winding yarns. KINSELLA, E. Aug. 6, 1936, No. 21688. [Class 120 (ii)] A split-drum yarn-winding machine has a cylinder or roller mounted within the drum and capable of rotation independently thereof. As shown the cylinder 11 is freely mounted in ball bearings 12 on the shaft 7 carrying the split drum 5 and is rotated by the thread as it passes to the package 26, 27 being wound : the cylinder may however be positively driven and may be mounted on the shaft 7, the two halves of the split drum being mounted on bushes on the shaft and being driven by gear wheels. The cylinder may be driven at the same peripheral speed of the yarn to free it from drag or at a different speed to control the tension on the yarn. The' use of the cylinder limits the variation in the length of the yarn extending from the periphery of the drum to the package during the winding thereof.
