Abstract

471,045. Winding yarns &c. HOLT, Ltd., T., and HOLT, R. April 16, 1937, No. 10838. [Class 120 (ii)] In a machine for winding yarns and threads of the type in which the spindle is frictionally driven by a wheel axially movable across the spindle wheel as winding proceeds by connections from an oscillatable frame carrying the traverse guide engaging the growing yarn package, e.g. as described in Specification 448,079, the spindle wheel 11 is driven by a loose ring 27 of frictional material mounted on a cylinder 26 fixed to the driving shaft 10, the ring being rotatable and freely slidable on the cylinder and being moved longitudinally thereon by connections from the oscillatable guide frame 21. As shown a shaft 25, oscillated by a link 23 connected to the frame 21, carries an arm 38 engaging a block 31 slidable along rods 28, 29 and having bowls or rollers 34, 35, bearing against the sides of the ring 27 ; the cylinder 26 may serve a number of winding heads and the rods 28, 29 may extend the full length of the machine.
