Abstract

481,377. Winding yarns. SOC. ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS RYO-CATTEAU. Sept. 24, 1936, Nos. 25944 and 25945. Convention dates, Sept. 24, 1935 and July 7, 1936. [Class 120 (ii)] A bobbin with truncated conical ends is wound by traverse mechanism comprising a small cylinder or drum 6 having a circumferential yarn guiding groove 40 disposed at an angle to the axis of the drum which is geared to the spindle or roller 5 driving the bobbin 3 through change gearing so that it can be rotated at a speed adjustable with respect to that of the spindle 5, the drum being at the same time reciprocated along the length of the bobbin 3. As shown, the traversing drum 6 is carried by a rotating shaft 7 driven from the winding roller 5 through change gearing 10, 11 and moved axially by a cam groove 12 in the gear 11 which is fixed on the shaft 7 and driven from the roller 5 ; the cam groove 12 engages a finger 13 on a fixed plate 14. In a modification, the drum is carried by a rotating screwed shaft engaging a nut in a gear secured against lateral movement and alternately driven at speeds less and greater than that of the shaft so that the latter is reciprocated ; the nut is driven through gear trains, one including a pawl-and-ratchet drive and the other a clutch.
