Abstract
529,958. Winding yarns. REINERS, W. June 13, 1939, No. 17302. Convention date, July 28, 1938. I[Class 120 (ii)] In a cop winding machine the speed of the winding spindle is reduced at the completion of the cop and while the thread guide or winding spindle is being returned to its initial position so that only a few coarsely spaced turns are laid on the completed cop prior to doffing. As shown the thread F is traversed in one direction by the helically-grooved drum 8 and in the reverse direction by reason of the oblique pull exerted by the fixed thread guide 9 and the winding spindle is fed forward during the winding and rotated by gears 5, 6 driven from the friction gear 3 engaging the driving wheel 2 on the shaft 1. When doffing is to take place, a cam 17 on the shaft 16 causes the return of the spindle to its initial winding position. A cam 18 moves the gear 3 out of engagement with the wheel 2 and a cam 28 actuates a lever 26 to allow a spring 27 to engage a gear 24 driven from the shaft 16 with a gear 25 on the shaft 7 and drive it at the reduced speed. In a modification in which the winding spindle is traversed and the thread guide fed along the spindle, the spindle carries a double cone clutch which during the winding is held in engagement with a wheel driven from the main shaft and, on completion of the winding, is shifted to disengage the clutch from this wheel and engage it with a wheel driven at a reduced speed from the main shaft. In a further form in which the thread guide is both traversed and fed along the winding spindle, the spindle is frictionally driven from the main driving shaft and at the completion of the cop the driven friction wheel is disengaged from the main drive and engaged with a friction wheel driven from an independent shaft to give the reduced spindle speed.
