Abstract

19,460. Boult, A. J., [Leeson, J. R.]. Aug. 24. Winding-machines; driving-arrangements. - Several layers of yarn of relatively short traverse are wound at one end of the bobbin, to form a 'bunch,' before the main portion of the winding with normal traverse is commenced, the means being applied to winding-machines for the same general type as that described in Specifications 5765/08, 24,611/08, 3082/09, and 3083/09. The traverse bar is reciprocated by a slotted link F, and is connected thereto by means of a link P and a pin p, which, at the beginning of the winding, is located at the bottom of the slot f<3> in the link F so as to wind a number of short lengths, and is automatically moved by a spring to the top of the slot to effect the normal winding. The pin p is retained at the bottom of the slot by a rim or flange on a ratchet-wheel R, which, during each reciprocation of the arm F is moved slightly by a pawl T carried by the link P until a slot or opening in the rim registers with the slot in the arm F. The pin p is then released and is drawn to the top of the slot by a spring q, and the normal traverse is imparted to the traverse bar. The traverse bar is in two parts C<1>, C<2>, of which the part C<2> is swivelled at c<1>, so that while the cop-bottom is being built it is pressed towards the spindle by a former k, as described in Specification 24,611/08. The thread-guide is moved along the screwed part of the bar C<2> by means of a progression wheel H which is turned by contact with the cop, and, as the guide mechanism moves along the former, the bar C<2> is moved by a spring plunger until it is alined with the bar C'. The skew gear that drives the spindle, and the hub of the arm F are connected to their shafts by means of clutches which are disconnected by parts carried by a longitudinally-movable bridge-piece L, as described in the above-mentioned Specifications. The bridge-piece is provided with a projection which engages with the hub of the arm F and locks it when the machine is stopped, so that when the traverse bar is pushed backwards the pin p is moved to the bottom of the slot f<3>.
