Abstract

112,783. Schaufelberger, A. Jan. 19, 1917, [Convention date]. Winding-machines; stop-motions; driving-arrangements.-In a pirn-winding machine in which the spindles are arranged around the circumference of a circular frame and are driven by a commou gear, the threads are traversed by a common cam mounted on the same shaft as the gear. The pirns 25, Fig. 1, are mounted upon spindles 19, which are depressed as the pirn grows by its engagement with a cone 34, Fig. 4. The spindles pass through driving-sleeves 17 which engage gears 14 meshing with a common gear 10 mounted on the shaft 8. The traverse cam 37 is formed ou the edge of a plate 9 on this same shaft, and is driven by a friction gear 11 adjustable along the main driving-shaft 12. The edge of the plate 9 may have more than one undulation and may be changeable. The spindles 19 are supported in sleeves 16 and in movable supports 23 which rise and fall in fixed guides 26 and are held up by weights 33. The conical layer being wound is pressed by these means against the core 34 which is mounted on a pin 61 adjustable in a slot 60, and held against a stop 57 by a spring coiled round the pin 61. The thread passes through a guide below the edge of the cam 37 and over the edge to the pirn. When a thread breaks, it allows an angle-piece pivoted on the thread-guide to move and depress a rod 49, Fig. 6, bringing an arm 48 into engagement with a cam part 53 on the cam plate 9. This operates a weighted three-armed lever 39 and withdraws a notch 40 from the stoprod 22, which thereupon rises under the influence of the spring 42 and takes the driving-sleeve out of engagement with the gear 14. When the pirn is full, a tappet 54 on the movable support 23 engages the inclined end of a lever 43 and presses it to the right, causing it to carry with it by means of a projection 44 the lever 39 and thus release the stop rod 22. The horizontal handle at the top of the stop rod at the same time engages the stop 57 and raises the lever carrying the cone 34 and moves it out of engagement with the pirn. The pirn then rises under the influence of the weight 33 into position for it to be exchanged.
